 721 Cyto Intracellular Amplifier

An economy version of the Intra 767 low noise wide-band probe electrometer for intracellular research including variable filtering with current injection for microiontophoresis, bridge balancing and capacitance compensation with microelectrode insertion features (tickling)

Low Noise Headstage — A miniature sealed gold plated probe contains the active headstage low noise FET, specially designed to minimize power line frequency noise and electrode capacitance.

Removable Microelectrode Holder — WPI’s specialized Ag/AgCl half-cell microelectrode holders plugs directly into the probe on a 2mm pin. A wide variety of holders are available for many applications.

Driven Guard Shield — Stray electrode capacitance is reduced by placing the included driven guard shield over the microelectrode holder at the input end of the probe.

Current Injection — Two ranges of current delivery are provided: 500 nA and 5 µA or by injecting from or with an external supply. The current injection can be used for delivering hyperpolarizing currents to stabilize cell membrane potential or to provide current for microiontophoresis of drug or dye injection.

Compliance Alarm — An audible compliance alarm will sound if the electrode voltage exceeds the system maximum.

Breakaway Mode — In applications where the required current or the microelectrode resistance renders the 10-volt system compliance limit insufficient, the built-in “breakaway” feature may be used, allowing direct access to the electrode tip via a 2M resistor. Up to 200 V may then be applied to the electrode without damaging the electrode electronics.

Bridge Balance — All currents developed by the internal DC and external generator and the external command are fed through an active bridge balance circuit which subtracts the artefacts associated with delivering current through the recording micropipette. The bridge can balance electrode resistances up to 100 megaohms or 1000 megaohms in two ranges.

Multiple Gain Outputs — Outputs from the bridge circuit are located on the front panel (gain) and the rear panel (1x, 10x, 20x or 50x).

Probe Test Port — Allows testing and alignment of the headstage prior to connection to the preparation.

Capacity Compensation — The built in amplifier can neutralize up to 50 pF of electrode shunt capacitance.

Tickler — The tickler circuit in the Cyto 721 generates oscillations under precise control and facilitates penetration of the cell membrane while minimizing cell damage. Both the frequency and amplitude of oscillations are easily adjustable from the front-panel. A remote logic control allows for manual or computer activation.
