 Heated & Cooled Stage Inserts

Email to Colleague

Accurate and reliable specimen temperature control

The warm stage insert maintains the temperature of a petri dish or slide on a microscope from ambient to 50ºC ±0.1ºC. A 24-heating element array maintains the temperature of the stage.
The cooled inserted stage achieves ±3ºC from ambient down to 10ºC. A Peltier “heat pump” maintains the temperature of the stage. The heat is removed from the cooled insert stage by a water cooled heat exchanger that requires a water supply with an 8 mL/min. flow rate.
These two stages will fit most inverted and standard microscopes with circular inserts. For maximum effectiveness when working with petri dishes with a bottom rim, use the insert with a raised central section. This provides direct contact with the dish. For flat dishes or slides, use the insert with a flat central section.

Heated Stage Insert

Cooled Stage Insert

  • 24 heating elements arranged in parallel for very high reliability
  • Controller can be tuned to achieve 0.1ºC from ambient up to 50ºC
  • High thermal conductivity material for uniform temperature distribution
  • Direct contact between heated insert surface and petri dish/slide
  • All solid-state electronics for long-life
  • Custom sizes available

  Standard Options

Heated and Cooled Stage Inserts are manufactured with the following standard options:
Diameter 110 mm for Olympus IX, IMT2 108 mm for Nikon Diaphot, Eclipse 100 mm for PIMIII (flat centre top only).
Aperture 6 mm, 16 mm or kidney shaped (mainly biological applications).
Raised (R) or Flat (F) centre top, depending on petri-dish type if used (with feet or without).
Power cord for heating element is introduced from bottom.

Custom Inserts

Custom Inserts
(custom insert size and heating element power cord mounting position) can be manufactured on request. These items will be quoted separately and will be subject to extra costs and longer delivery times, as required. The following information is required when ordering custom inserts:
1— Outside Diameter (the exact diameter of the microscope stage aperture).
2— Inside Diameter (the exact diameter of the lower part of the microscope stage aperture).
3— The difference between the Outside and Inside Diameters gives the size of the “shelf” on which the insert will sit.
4— Stage Insert Aperture (diameter of the hole in the insert).
5— Flat or Raised Top Insert (will be placed on/over the insert if a petri dish is to be used).
