Overview
Controlled cortical impact (CCI) is a commonly used and highly regarded model of brain trauma. It is used by researchers to produce highly reproducible models of traumatic brain injury (TBI) for scientific and medical studies.
The TBI-031000 sets new standards for controlled cortical impactors, offering major upgrades to impact speed, depth, and dwell-time control for more precise, reproducible injury models. Machine learning algorithms optimize velocity using data from prior impacts, delivering the best speed repeatability of any pneumatic impactor available, while PSI's proprietary Tare to Tissue contact sensor reduces user variability for micrometer-level depth precision.
- Pneumatic Impactor for traumatic brain injury model for mice and rats
- Programmable impact speed with machine learning to optimize impact velocity
- Impact depth: 0 - 5 mm, increments of 0.001 mm
- Impact velocity: 1.5 - 5.5 m/s, increments of 0.1 m/s
- Impact dwell time: 50 ms - 5.0 s, increments of 1.0 ms
Built on a durable pneumatic frame, the device features a high-resolution touchscreen with animated guidance (crossbar-mounted or portable benchtop), integrated electronic controls for a smaller footprint, and a Class II medical power supply. It ships with two standard impact tips (3 mm tip for mice and a 5 mm tip for rats), supports custom tip options, and works with all major stereotaxic frame brands (sold separately).
The TBI-031000 keeps the familiar TBI-0310 user experience while adding significant upgrades to procedures and calibration. Backed by PSI's 30 years of experience and researcher feedback, it's supported by our technical service and expertise.
